Information

The BLI awards a number of prizes to recognise outstanding linguistics research, whatever the subfield. Many of these prizes focus on undergraduate and postgraduate student research. These awards not only recognise writing skill, but also the ability to present innovative research in cogent and engaging ways. The BLI invites top universities with an undergraduate teaching programme in linguistics to nominate one undergraduate or first year postgraduate dissertation or long essay, which may be on any topic within the field of linguistics. The submission should be a major, original piece of work. As a rough guide, we expect submissions to be around 8,000 words in length (equivalent to a 25-page article in Journal of Linguistics), but longer or shorter submissions will be accepted, as we recognise that different programmes have different requirements. The fundamental criteria are originality and excellence. We also look to other work published  or available online by students.

This year we picked just four finalists, three undergraduates and one post graduate. We strongly believe these young linguists have the potential to make a real impact on the linguistic world. We have now announced our winner and runners-up! Click below to read more.
