JODIE BOWEN

Student of the Year Nominee 

After studying at various top academic London schools, Jodie now studies French, German & Linguistics, Philology and Phonology at the  University of Bristol in England. She already holds an L1 degree in Political Science from the University of Aix-Marseille in France. Her language construction was considered 'innovative' and 'remarkable'. Jodie also co-researched the much anticipated paper 'Phonetics and Phonology' with Oxford professor Dr Nicols. She recently appeared on the Student LIPh podcast and has been recently making a name for herself in the world of linguistics. Dr. Hardy from BU described her as 'truly promising' after reviewing her Monoki constructions. In 2019, she won the Charlotte Griffiths Prize for German and the Carey Elwes Travel Award for dedication to language. Jodie has been recommended for Masters at MIT, Toronto and LSE.

Nathan Leong-hang

Student of the Year Nominee

From the renowned St Paul's College in Hong Kong, Nathan has since attended RSI and Cambridge University where he was a scholar. His work is described as 'truly unique'. Being a man of many talents and qualifications is clearly reflected in his linguistic work. He started his linguistic journey in school where he won the LIT award at only 16 years old and has now pursued it for many years. He continues to inspire young linguists around the globe. Nathan is now a renowned public speaker and won numerous awards. His 'charismatic persona' as described by BU is reflected in his written research papers. His academic record has been described as 'flawless' and he holds many awards outside the world of language and linguistics. Nathan has recently graduated from Cambridge and is now onto further study.

GEORGINA FENTON

Georgina only entered the world of linguistic research last year, however she has already shown amazing progress and talent in the area of Bio-linguistics. She has lived in Paris her whole life and has made remarkable progress in French language variations study. She now focuses her work on language and women, which is something significantly overlooked. She attends Paris Science -Po, one of the top schools in France and is looking to do a linguistic masters next year. Dr. Melek described her as 'utterly hardworking and extremely dedicated'. Although not much of her work is published online, the Institute believes what she has achieved in just a year is astonishing. Georgina has been recommended to Masters in Toronto, UCLA and KCL.


OLIVER FREEMAN

Despite being the youngest finalist this year, Oliver's work is extremely thorough and he has already co-researched with numerous German professors. Growing up in Munich and then moving to Singapore, Oliver has cross-researched Euro and Asian linguistics since the age of 18. Oliver was first nominated at the age of 16 for SoY after publishing over 3 papers. Starting university in Singapore around September has provided him with even better resources and he has had offers from numerous institutes for co-researching opportunities. His work is primarily in German however his recent switch to English has opened up a new field of opportunities and his work is now available globally.
